A resume template for logistics

In warehouses, hiring moves fast: a staffing agency can offer an assignment the same day. Your resume needs to give the key information immediately: certifications, picking method, pick rate, accuracy and shifts. The single-column Harvard template is also the best read by agencies’ applicant tracking systems.

What to highlight

  • Forklift certifications, with equipment types: sit-down, reach truck, order picker, pallet jack.
  • Picking method: RF scanner, voice picking, paper pick lists.
  • Type of products: fresh, frozen, e-commerce parcels, heavy parts.
  • Shifts you accept: rotating, nights, weekends.
  • Getting to work: license, vehicle, commute time to warehouse areas.

Quantify pick rate and accuracy

Warehouse managers think in numbers. State your pick rate, in cases or lines per shift, and above all your error rate: “180 cases per shift, under 0.5% errors”. Fast but inaccurate picking is expensive for the company; accuracy is a strong argument.

Example summaries

  • Experienced: “Order picker for four years, fast and accurate. Available for rotating and night shifts, looking for a long-term assignment or a permanent position.”
  • Beginner: “Used to physical work after two seasons of farm work, looking for a first warehouse job, available immediately.”
  • Forklift operator: “Order picker and forklift operator, certified on sit-down and reach trucks, looking for a warehouse job in the Inland Empire.”

Safety, a real criterion

Wearing PPE, safe lifting, following warehouse traffic rules: mention them, along with OSHA 10 or first aid training if you have it. A candidate who’s attentive to safety always reassures a team lead.

Staffing agencies and your resume

In logistics, much of the hiring goes through staffing agencies. Agencies search their database by keyword: use precise terms such as “RF scanner picking”, “forklift certified”, “cold storage”, “night shift”. Register with two or three agencies near warehouse hubs and update your resume after every assignment. See also our temp job resume template.

Moving up in logistics

Order picking leads to forklift operator, receiver, team lead or inventory control roles. Industry certifications, earned through training or on-the-job experience, help get your skills recognized. Mention any responsibility you’ve already been given: training temps, managing a zone, cycle counts.

Order picker with no experience

The job is open to beginners. Highlight your stamina, your punctuality, any manual work experience such as farm work or moving, and your availability for shift work. Safe lifting training or a forklift certification, even a recent one, significantly strengthens your application.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need forklift certification to be an order picker?

Not for manual picking, but it's in high demand to operate lifts. List the equipment types you're certified on and the date.

Should I list my pick rate?

Yes, if it's good: cases or lines per hour or per shift. Add your error rate, which matters as much as speed.

How do I present many temp assignments?

Group them in one block with the period, agencies or industry, and the shared tasks. Highlight long or extended assignments.

Which shifts should I list?

The ones you'll really accept: rotating shifts, nights, weekends. That's often what decides an assignment.
