A resume template made for caregiving
Home care agencies and senior living communities hire caregivers all the time. The care coordinator is looking for someone trustworthy, trained, independent and mobile. Your resume should reassure them in seconds. The Chicago template puts your skills and certifications in a side column, and leaves the main area for your caregiving experience.
Essential information
- Your certification: home health aide (HHA), personal care aide (PCA) or CNA.
- Clients served: older adults, people with disabilities, dementia, end-of-life care.
- Care provided: bathing, dressing, meals, transfers, outings.
- Driver’s license and car, often essential in home care.
- Your availability: weekends, holidays, split shifts, live-in.
Describe the support you provide
Specify the pace and nature of your work: “Support six clients each week”, “Assist with transfers using a mechanical lift”, “Prepare low-sodium meals”. Add the coordination tools you use: care logs, updates to the nurse and families. These details show your independence in demanding situations.
Example summaries
- Experienced: “Certified caregiver for seven years, supporting older adults and adults with disabilities in their homes.”
- Newly certified: “Newly certified personal care aide with practical training in home care and group homes, looking for a first position. Driver’s license and own car.”
- Career change: “After ten years in retail, I trained as a caregiver. My people skills now serve the clients I support.”
Prove your people skills
Patience, compassion, discretion and listening are expected of every candidate. Show them through facts: a client supported for several years, a family that recommended you, an emergency handled calmly. The care coordinator will remember these examples far more than adjectives.
Caregiver or home care aide?
A caregiver helps with essential daily activities: bathing, dressing, eating. A home care aide (homemaker) focuses more on housekeeping, errands and meal preparation. If you do both, highlight personal care, which is more skilled. For the other role, see our home care aide resume template.
Short trainings that make a difference
Beyond your certification, short trainings reassure employers: dementia care, safe patient handling, palliative care, CPR and first aid. List them with their length and year under Education.
